The Riva Mini Backpack (new PDF pattern)

Posted by Namrata Shroff on

Hello Bagstock Friends!

I hope you're all doing well. I just got back from a lovely vacation with my family. We went to Italy and had an amazing time. It's so beautiful there. If you follow my other Instagram account, @capturesbynamrata, you can see some of the pictures I took.

Today is June 1st and I have a brand-new pattern, it's one my testers have enjoyed making. If you're going to be travelling, this is a great bag for you. If you like convertible bags, this is a bag for you. If you like bags with plenty of pockets, this bag is for you. I guess what we're saying is, this bag is for everyone!

Meet the Riva (rEE-va) Mini Backpack. While it's called "mini" it's definitely packed with many great features and space.

There’s a Special release price until - June 4th, 2023-11.59 PM EST

So, let's discuss the features!

As mentioned above, it is convertible, so you can wear it as a backpack, a crossbody bag or a shoulder bag. There is also a handle to carry it with. No matter what your day has in store, you'll be ready with this bag.

Finished Measurements - 10” W x 12” H x 4” D

Pattern skill level - Intermediate

There is an exterior front slip pocket, which has a zipper pocket inside, and then it's all kept closed with a flap that has a twist lock (or magnetic snap). This pocket is great for your phone, sunglasses or anything you want kept safe inside but also easily accessible. The front center would be a great place for a feature. You could add some embroidery or even fussy cut your favourite fabrics.

Inside the bag is a slip pocket, which you can divide how you want, and a zipper pocket. The bag is roomy enough for all your belongings, or anything you'll need for a day out.

The bag is finished with binding, but don't let that deter you from making this bag because there are detailed instructions for these steps, with photos. I know you can do this!

This bag does require a bit of hardware. However, you can omit some pieces, such as only adding the crossbody strap, and that'll save you on some hardware.

This bag truly is a super customizable bag. You could make many and they will all look like a different bag. I know you're going to love this bag as much as myself and my testers do!

If you're a visual learner, there is a video tutorial by Michelle Graham of mgrahamsews. She walks you through all the steps of making the bag.
